Ankle Sprains and You!

Ankle Sprains and You!Aug 26th  2010

The ligaments surrounding the ankle are surprisingly fragile.  What can be a seemingly harmless motion has the potential to cause serious ankle sprains. Ankle ligaments are elastic structures that hold the ankle joint together to prevent (or minimize) excessive twisting and turning that can lead to injury. These ligaments are able to stretch slightly to accommodate normal movements, but as with everything, they have an inherent limit. When they are stretched beyond their natural limits, the result is a painful sprain.

So here are the cliff notes from Mens Health: 5 Myths about Anti-Oxidants.

The Basics: Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are unstable molecules in the body that can cause DNA mutation.

Pills or PT

Pills or PTApr 20th  2010

In a recent article in Mens Health Magazine called “Say No to Drugs” by T.E. Holt MD, an interesting point was highlighted:

“Drugs can only patch what’s broken. Some do it better than others, but no matter how good the drug, there are things in life that just don’t patch very well. Better to take the effort to keep those things whole than to count on some chemical to glue them back together.”

This statement made me realize how important a role Physical Therapists play in educating people alternative means to improve their health.

Where Does Pain Come From?

Where Does Pain Come From?Feb 1st  2010

Pain, in all its varieties and subtleties, is among the most complex of human symptoms. It has been described in uncounted ways by writers and portrayed by actors, but we read or view these characterizations through the lens of the pains we ourselves have had. Even though we all have felt pain, and in that sense have shared the experience with all other humans, it is also unique to us. Pain is both universal and profoundly personal.

What is Physical Therapy?

What is Physical Therapy?Jan 31st  2010

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy can help improve or restore the mobility you need to move forward with your life. If you are looking for a possible alternative to surgery and/or pain medication, consider a physical therapy. Physical therapists utilize intensive education and clinical expertise by applying research and proven techniques to help people get people back in motion. Physical therapists also examine, diagnose and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life.
